League-Winner Adnan Replaces Yak

League-Winner Adnan Replaces Yak

2 Feb 2022

We can report our second major signing of the season, bringing in one of the league’s most dangerous pace bowlers Adnan Ghani to replace Umer Yaqoob who has gone the other way to Hoylandswaine.

Deaf cricketer, Ghani who has represented Pakistan’s deaf team in the past has enjoyed a decorated stay at Hoylandswaine who have dominated local cricket in the time he has spent with them. The tall quick bowler has been a thorn in our side, chalking up several impressive performances when we’ve met, most notably when he single-handedly dismantled our batting during our home match against his former club. It will be a relief to see him unleashed on our opposition during the upcoming season!

With Hoylandswaine, Adnan has 179 wickets to his name over a five year career since signing from Denby in 2017. He gained promotion with Denby as a youngster but at Haigh Lane he has won a Sykes Cup, two T20 Trophies and been a Premiership winner in every season.

Outgoing strike bowler Umer Yaqoob leaves us with an impressive record after his four season spell and emerged as one of our most potent weapons with the ball. The Yak took 68 wickets in his debut season, helping us lift the Sykes Cup in 2018. He followed that up with 62 wickets in 2019 and then in 2021, his 50 wickets was crucial to our safety in a tough campaign. We wish Yak all the best in the future.

We look forward to seeing pace bowler Adnan steam down our slope in the coming season. Welcome to Delph, Adnan!
