Twelve Pointer On Saturday As Champions Cut Down - Sat 26 May Roundup

The firsts continued an encouraging run of league form by adding their second win of the season against title holders Moorlands.

First hold their nerve as all-round team performance scuppers the Champions.

A tweaked batting order by the skipper delivers a memorable victory as we more-or-less bat the innings out.

<img src="//delphdobcrosscc-static.

The bowling attack started brightly, claiming the crucial second-over wicket of Moorlands' dangerous opener, Marcus Walmsley.

Walmsley continued to dig deep, but Delph kept chipping away at the wickets, inching closer to victory.

The bowling honours were shared with Nathan Jones leading the effort with three wickets for 27 runs, while Nayyar Abbas, Wasim Qasim, and Stevel Rodney all picked up two wickets each.

Danny’s 2nd XI come of age in battle against the strugglers.

Delph's second team looked to secure their second win of the season as they welcomed winless Armitage Bridge to HQ.

Callum Sykes Quarmby got things rolling with an excellent opening spell, disrupting the visitors' promising start.

Danny Jones, Jimmy Hopwood-Kenworthy, and George Partington all chipped in with wickets, ensuring the Bridge batters were never comfortable.

<img src="//delphdobcrosscc-static.

The Delph chase began pleasingly maturely, with Hague (29) and Simpson (38) putting on a solid 52-run opening partnership.

Arman Anchors First Win Of The Season - Saturday 19 May Roundup

Contrasting fortunes for our senior teams as the 1XI secured their first win of the season in a thrilling encounter against Shepley, a team they've faced the most times during the Huddersfield League era.

Hussain Anchors Batting Fightback for the Firsts

We found ourselves under pressure for much of the first innings after electing to bat first on a warm, sunny afternoon.

A superb fielding display from Delph kept Shepley in check early on in the reply, restricting them to 14-2.

Disappointing Day for Danny’s 2nd XI

Delph's 2nd XI were dealt a harsh lesson on the road, falling to defeat at a shrewd and experienced Barkisland side.

Thirds Flex Muscles In Opening Day win at Denton

Delph's 3rd XI development squad flexed their muscles with a convincing 8-wicket victory away at Denton 3rd XI to get their season off and running.

The bowling attack set the tone for the win, spearheaded by dominant bowling from Isaac Davis.

Chasing a modest target, Delph's batting line-up displayed a mature performance.

Delph 3XI skipper, Wilf Shaw, was left beaming after the win.

Wilf’s troops have had to rearrange Woodhouses visit to HQ next Sunday 19th May due to a rescheduled cup fixture for the two senior teams.

Batting Woes For Both Senior Teams: Saturday 11 May Roundup

Delph's senior sides endured a day of batting woes, however, there were encouraging signs from the bowling attack in both games.

1st XI Stumble Despite Rodney's Heroics

The trip to Honley proved a mixed bag for Delph.

While the batting faltered, the bowlers offered some hope.

Much to work on but lots to take.

2nd XI Outclassed by Scholes

Delph's 2nd XI woes continued on home soil against a well-drilled Scholes outfit.

Looking Ahead

While the batting left a lot to be desired, the bowling attack showed promising signs.

Head to our Facebook page to view the photo gallery from Honley: <a href="https://www.

We are delighted to introduce our newest player addition, talented wicketkeeper and strong middle-order batsman, Muhammad Ali to replace the outgoing Demari Prince.

Aged 25, Ali started his cricketing journey at Golcar and Elland in 2016-17, gaining valuable league experience.

Beyond his batting capabilities, Ali has proven himself as a reliable wicketkeeper, claiming over 170 victims during his time at Golcar which will make him a great foil for returning overseas leg spinner, Nayyar Abbas.

We extend a warm welcome to Muhammad and look forward to seeing his valuable contributions both behind the stumps and with the bat.

Walter’s Comeback! Seam Bowler Qasim Returns.

A homecoming for seasoned seam bowler is on the cards for Wasim / ‘Walter’ Qasim who left an indelible mark during his previous stint from 2015 to 2018.

Wasim has been plying his trade at Denton West and Stayley since his departure from Delph in 2018.

In his five seasons with us, he amassed an impressive record, claiming over 250 wickets.

Wasim's proficiency with the ball is matched by his utility with the bat, solidifying our lower order with four half-centuries during his last spell.

Welcome back to the fold, Walter!

Mosun, Adnan & Demari Bid Farewell

It is with a mix of gratitude and sadness that we bid farewell to three remarkable players, Long-serving opening batsman Mosun Hussain, wicketkeeper Demari Prince and strike bowler Adnan Ghani, as they embark on new cricketing paths.

Mosun Hussain needs little introduction having spearheaded the batting department since joining as a young prodigy 2017.

Demari Prince, in his debut season with us last year, showcased his talent with both bat and gloves.

Adnan Ghani, a familiar face in our bowling lineup for two seasons (2022 and 2023), leaves us to join Thongsbridge.

Known for his searing spells of bowling, Adnan picked up four 5+ wicket hauls during his time with us.

As they move on to new adventures, we extend our thanks to Mosun, Demari and Adnan for their contributions to Delph & Dobcross CC.

Keep checking our socials and website for news on our new first team additions this week.

Get Set Weekend 2024

We're revving up for an important few days of maintenance work at Delph & Dobcross Cricket Club, and we need your help!

Apologies for the short notice, but we have a 10k run happening on the 24th, so we need to tackle the maintenance work a day earlier.

In the past few years, our maintenance weekends have seen lower turnouts than we'd hoped for.

Here's a rundown of the main jobs we have lined up:

- Redecorate the home and away dressing rooms.
- Tidy up the umpires room (painting not necessarily required).
- Paint the boundary walls.
- Clear weeds from the path at the bottom boundary.
- Install a short stretch of land drain (approximately 10 metres) at the far end of the square on the bowlers' run-up.

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to our dear friend and club treasurer, Malcolm Edge, who passed away peacefully last week.

Malcolm was more than just our treasurer; he was a pillar of our club, bringing positivity and enthusiasm to everything he did.

In his absence, Stephen White stepped up admirably to fill the role of treasurer during Malcolm's illness and will continue to do so going forward.

David Gill

The club are saddened to learn of the passing of former player, David Gill who died peacefully in hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning following a fall at his home a day prior.

David was fondly remembered by many former players and supporters at Delph.

Silverware was never far away for the man who was able to slot in the middle order.

In 1969, he was part of a title-winning team in his first season, Delph’s first Championship since the Second World War, one which triggered a haul of fifteen major trophies in fourteen seasons.

During this golden period, he would become teammates with some outstanding players and a compelling cast list of characters.

His passion for cricket clearly rubbed off on his two sons, Peter and Paul Gill who shared some of the same successes David did towards the end of his career.

Earlier in Paul’s career, experienced gloveman Tony Dust was at the helm, forcing Paul to gain first team experience at fierce derby rivals Uppermill.

He played final match for Delph on the 15th September 1984 and brought an end to his playing career with a tidy 1-3 from two overs to claim the final Saddleworth wicket.

David’s funeral is yet to be arranged and will be announced here in due course.
