Our club, with its proud history of cricket in the villages of Delph and Dobcross proudly celebrates its 150th anniversary. The club was formed in the Autumn of 1873 and to celebrate this landmark, the club have planned a series of events around the August bank holiday.
On Saturday August 26th, with the backdrop of our first team home match against Rastrick, we are holding an open invite to former and retired players of the club. A bucks fizz reception will be on arrival and nibbles throughout the afternoon will be provided. Whilst taking in the current crop of Delph & Dobcross players as they strive towards their goal of promotion to the Huddersfield Cricket League Premiership, old photographs, newspaper clippings and match reports will be on a large display at the club. Following the match, a West Indies themed night is planned with full caribbean BBQ, music and a special video presentation will be shown in the evening.
Then, on Sunday August 27th we’ve planned a spectacular cricketing festival to celebrate Delph & Dobcross. Firstly, a fun ten over match containing two teams of retired Delph players; The Roy Tomkinson XI versus the Ray Jones XI will be played as a curtain-raiser to the main event; the 2016 treble winning team will take on a Saddleworth Select XI. There is music and announcements throughout the day, with one or two other surprises thrown in and if you’re peckish, the barbecue selling the best in local produce will be running all day. To round off a brilliant weekend, live music inside the club is by the wonderful local performer Hayley Jane.
Tickets for Sunday are priced at £4 each with £2 for concessions and will be available from the club and other local outlets in the area. A list of ticket sellers will feature below as soon as we have it available but in the meantime please buy directly from the cricket club.
